Pollen vs Carrd
Carrd is a close practical alternative for a small hosted site: its one-page workflow, custom domains and form options cover more of publication than Pollen’s file export. Pollen offers three composed product-site designs and a public agent-drafting path. Compare the contact action and the eventual host, not just whether both can display a headline.

Choose Carrd when
Choose Carrd for a hosted one-page site with a custom domain, contact or signup forms and a published annual subscription.
Choose Pollen when
Choose Pollen when its product-site design fits, an agent can supply the first draft and you want to take the HTML to your own host.
Two small-site workflows with different editing choices
Carrd presents itself as a responsive one-page builder. Its templates and editing workflow suit a profile, signup page, portfolio introduction or compact product offer. Pro features add custom media and embeds. Try Carrd when you want a hosted editor rather than an exported starting point.
Pollen’s SaaS, Consumer and Portfolio designs are composed product presentations with included art assets and different typography. You enter your own public business details and compare desktop and phone previews. The designs do not imply a drag-and-drop editor for arbitrary new sections. A portfolio requiring a long project archive may need more than the current Pollen inputs provide.
Choose a concrete small-site brief before comparing. For example, specify the product introduction, one supporting description and the exact next step. Review both tools against that brief, including a narrow screen and long real copy. A collection of attractive templates does not prove that your required text, media and visitor action fit without additional work.
A working signup form can decide the comparison
Carrd’s paid features include contact and signup forms, while its custom-form documentation lists destinations such as Airtable, Make, n8n, Zapier and a custom URL. The destination is part of the system: identify the account that receives submissions, what data it stores and any delivery or automation charges. A form appearing on the page is not enough to establish a working inquiry flow.
Pollen’s optional public email creates a contact link. Its current export does not add a lead database, subscription service, payment flow or form handler. If collecting email addresses is the launch’s central goal, Carrd’s documented integration path may be the better fit. If a contact email is sufficient, avoid buying and configuring a larger service solely because it appears in a feature checklist.
Carrd’s editable project and downloaded source are separate
Carrd documents source downloads on Pro Plus or above. The ZIP includes unminified front-end files, but features that depend on Carrd’s platform, particularly forms, will not keep functioning merely because they remain visible. The downloaded version also cannot be uploaded back into Carrd. Keep the original editable project if you expect to continue using its editor.
Pollen’s expected handoff is a single HTML file with its supplied styles and assets included. That makes the file straightforward to inspect and place on a static host, but does not select that host, connect the domain or maintain future edits. Compare a Carrd-hosted site with a hosted Pollen file for publication costs; compare downloads only when independent hosting is actually required.
Distinguish an agent draft from an integration form
Pollen documents public MCP tools for making a draft and retrieving its HTML. Its export includes readable content and WebPage/Organization structured facts. That is useful when an agent is preparing the site, but it does not give a visitor’s agent permission to submit data or operate your business. The downloaded page has no MCP server.
The Carrd documentation reviewed here establishes embeds and external form integrations, not a native MCP drafting or visitor-action contract. Treat that capability as unverified, rather than claim that an integration is impossible. If agent access matters, write down the operation you want and ask for its documented interface. An automation destination behind a form and an agent-facing tool have different callers and permission requirements.
Use the full annual bill for the site you need
Carrd’s checked Pro page lists Standard at $19 per year for up to ten sites and Plus at $49 per year for up to twenty-five. Standard includes custom domains and forms; Plus is the relevant tier for source download. If you need one site, the bill is still the full plan price, not one-tenth of Standard’s annual charge.
Add domain registration and any paid form destination, email service or external widget. For Pollen, include those same independent services when needed, plus hosting and source maintenance. Pollen has no published paid-plan price, so an unsupported zero-cost ranking would mislead. Carrd may be the simpler purchase when its hosted workflow already covers the whole brief.
Before moving, follow one real submission to its destination
If leaving Carrd, save the editable project and eligible source download, then list every form and embedded service. Build the proposed replacement on a temporary URL. Reconnect the receiving service and send a permitted test submission before moving the custom domain. Check delivery in the receiving account; a success message on the page is not a substitute.
If moving a Pollen site into Carrd, use the original copy and approved assets as your starting material, then recreate the composition in Carrd’s editor. Do not assume the Pollen file is an editable Carrd project. Keep links, page-section anchors and contact destinations in a small checklist. Retain the old file until the published replacement and its actual visitor action work.
Questions before choosing
Which Carrd plan is relevant for a custom-domain launch page?
The checked Pro page lists Standard with custom-domain publishing and forms. Plus adds downloads and other advanced features. Select the tier from the required workflow, then add the domain and any external service charges to the annual total.
Do forms keep working after I download a Carrd site?
Carrd explicitly warns that platform-dependent features, especially forms, will remain visible but not functional in the download. Arrange and test a replacement handler before switching hosts. Keeping the ZIP is not a complete form migration.
Can I edit exported source and upload it back into Carrd?
Carrd says a downloaded site cannot be uploaded back to the platform. Preserve the editable Carrd project and decide which version is your maintained source before making outside changes. Pollen’s HTML is also a handoff to edit or host separately, not a Carrd project format.
Is Carrd or Pollen better for collecting a waitlist?
Carrd is worth choosing when its signup-form integration matches your email service. Pollen currently provides an optional email contact link, not an equivalent waitlist backend. Select the receiving service, consent wording and submission path before choosing the design.
